Counselling for Anxiety
Finding calm amidst the storm within
Perhaps your journey brought you here because…
You feel like your mind is constantly racing and out of control.
You find yourself obsessing over your work, responsibilities, or other areas of life.
You’ve noticed bodily sensations that leave you feeling uncomfortable or restless.
Your worries have started to affect your daily life and your ability to get things done.
You can’t focus anymore and quiet activities like reading seem impossible.
You find yourself avoiding people, work, or other responsibilities because of how you feel.
Anxiety is a cycle of paradoxes
Anxiety is a natural part of life. There are many times when it is quite reasonable to feel anxious. Everyone has anxious parts to themselves. These parts often help us to achieve goals or they help protect us from threats.
But sometimes our anxious parts go too far. Sometimes they end up just getting in the way. When this happens, we often become unable to rest and relax. We struggle to connect with others, to express ourselves, or to focus on our daily tasks.
The paradox of anxiety is that our anxiety is still trying to help us. Our anxiety can be like that friend who tries to “help” without asking how to help us. Instead of actually helping us in the way we need, they disrupt our lives and frustrate us, causing more harm than good.
Worse yet, whenever our anxiety hinders us or prevents us from achieving something, our anxiety often gets that much worse. Before long, we start having anxiety about everything in our lives—even anxiety about our anxiety! And so the cycle begins…
The good news is that the cycle can stop. We can help our anxious parts to relax. In fact, we can even befriend these anxious parts and help them to work with us instead of against us. We can experience freedom and a new sense of mastery over our lives.
We can live freely and more fully without being at war with ourselves
My experience with anxiety and how I can help
As someone who struggled with crippling social anxiety in his youth, which then turned into rabid perfectionism throughout his 20s, I suppose you could say I know a bit about anxiety! It is a topic I have grown quite passionate about when it comes to helping others.
Over the years I have worked with a number of individuals, including both young- and middle-aged adults, who struggle with anxiety. If there is one thing I love to see, it’s when such people finally experience that first breath of fresh air when they finally ground themselves!
As a mental health practitioner, I can help you learn about your anxiety and its dynamics. I will help you to learn how to identify signs that your anxiety may be building up, so you can then start to respond to it in a healthy way. We will also work on techniques for responding to anxiety in the moment when it flares up. After we have established a sense of stability and peace, then we will work to find ways for you to continue living more freely and restfully.
