About Josh
Joshua Mata is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and he launched Authentic Journeys: Counselling & Psychotherapy Services in October 2023.
He created Authentic Journeys because he is passionate about embracing the messiness of life, including all its hardships as well as its goodness. He enjoys helping people to take ownership of their journeys, to appreciate it for what it is, and to find ways to reconnect with themselves, their loved ones, and the world around them.
Josh is an associate of the Medical Clinic of Person-Centered Psychotherapy, where he originally interned under the clinic’s owner, Dr. Michael Paré, and provided both individual and group psychotherapy. These days, Josh partners with the Medical Clinic by providing workshops and counselling education group sessions.
He has a long history with Tyndale University and its community. There, he earned a Bachelors in Psychology in 2018, earned a Masters in Clinical Counselling in 2023, and served as a staff member of the university from 2016 to 2024. He advised and counselled undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students of all ages and demographics. Specifically, he provided support, training, and education to those facing difficulties with life management and balancing responsibilities, as well as to those struggling to understand their passions, interests, and the potential career paths ahead of them.
In his personal life, Josh enjoys organizing social groups for various outings, events, or just simple connection and accountability. His most recent passion is for hosting tabletop roleplaying games, where he gathers groups of friends to build collaborative stories of drama, horror, and comedy. For that reason, Josh is also a huge fan of fictional novel series about worlds that are too big to explore.
